BVIDA Offering Foot Care Support for Diabetics

Since 2022, the BVI Diabetes Association has been offering affordable foot care services to help people living with diabetes take better care of their health. The service, led by Nurse Mercedes Samuels, a certified diabetic foot care specialist, is available every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Diabetes Resource Center on Main Street.

Diabetes can affect circulation and nerve function, making the feet especially vulnerable to complications. Regular care can make a big difference in preventing problems such as infections, calluses, or ingrown toenails from becoming more serious.

For a fee of just $30, patients can receive pulse and circulation checks, nerve and sensory assessments, nail cutting, corn and callus removal, and ingrown toenail management.

“Foot care is often overlooked, but it is one of the most important steps for people managing diabetes,” said Nurse Samuels. “We are glad to provide this service consistently so the community can count on it.”

The Association says the service has been well received since it began, and remains a core part of its work to support healthier living across the Virgin Islands.

Appointments can be booked by calling 494-4125.
